Our story began in 2006 when 6 families in Denver followed God’s calling to start a new church in Denver. Since the beginning our church, we’ve had a vision to be a church that spreads God’s fame by multiplying disciples of Jesus and multiplying churches in our community and around the world. This means that we are not just about gathering people, but sending disciples out into our city. Throughout the existence of our church, God has given us the privilege to reach hundreds of people, as well as send out many as well. By God’s grace in 2012, we were able to plant our first church out of our own church family in the Newton-Conover community, and now we are getting ready to launch our newest church called We are Church in the Lake Norman area. At Church at Denver, we want to be about The Kingdom, not a kingdom. As we move forward, we are going to continue to reach, teach, and release people for God’s mission in Denver and around the world.
Deep within all of our hearts is a desire to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Sadly, most of us believe that we can actually do something during our lifetime to be remembered. One of my favorite questions to ask people is if they can name their great-grandparents. The majority of people can’t. The reason I love to do that is to remind all of us that one day, our own family won’t remember our names. So if we spend all of our time trying to live a life of significance today, in the end, we’ll be sadly disappointed.
Life is not meaningless though, and you are certainly not insignificant. You see, God did the most amazing thing imaginable. He invites us to be a part of His Story. When Jesus came to earth over 2,000 years ago, He came to write the ultimate narrative of human history. He came to not only overcome sin and death, but to invite us into His narrative. Our significance doesn’t come from living our own story, but by joining God in His story and sharing that story with others. It’s why our vision at Church at Denver is to “take God’s story to every man, woman, and child”.
When we do this, what we do will never be forgotten.
